Mystics' Sonia Citron leads entire WNBA in brand new stat originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
It hasn't taken long for Sonia Citron to prove to the rest of the WNBA that she's deserving of the ultimate respect.
A new stat released by the league for the first time is proof of just how impactful the Washington Mystics' second-year star is on every game she plays in.
On Wednesday, the WNBA unveiled its gravity stat -- it measures how much a player shifts an entire defense based on their presence and movements.
Citron leads the whole league in the metric:
Gravity is HERE ️
The W’s first Inside the Game stat, powered by @awscloud, measures the players who shift defenses and change the game with every touch.

MORE: Fever, Caitlin Clark have a bizarre WNBA schedule
This is how the WNBA's official website describes the measurement: "Gravity quantifies how much a player pulls defenders towards them above expected, essentially measuring how much attention they draw compared to what the spacing on the floor predicts."
In the modern NBA, it's classically the Steph Curry stat. Everywhere Curry goes, defenders shift in his direction, often leaving his teammates wide open because they overcommit to a cut that Curry makes.
Citron has much the same impact on the floor, and that's incredibly impressive.
MORE: This Angel Reese stat is an absolute nightmare
Of course, part of this depends on how much an opponent needs to respect a given player's teammates, but you don't lead the WNBA in this by accident.
Citron has everyone's eyes on her, and she's shining quite bright.
