Joe Thomas stuck around until the bitter end with the Cleveland Browns.

Myles Garrett chose a different path, a trade on Monday to the Los Angeles Rams, that will stop him from spending his entire NFL career on the shores of Lake Erie.

But really, they are one and the same. They've had, if the word can be used this way, the most Browns-y of NFL journeys.

Thomas never played in a single postseason game and might also be the best left tackle in the history of football.

Garrett just set the NFL single-season sack record for a team that went 5-12.

Even when the Browns have good things, they can't have good seasons.

Garrett at least appeared in the playoffs for Cleveland, but barely. He'll have a much better chance of hoisting a Lombardi Trophy with the Rams.

And so his Browns career comes to a headline-grabbing, but not particularly happy, ending.

The Browns made Garrett the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. At the time, it wasn't clear that choosing an edge rusher was the right call for Cleveland, but they clearly knew what they were getting.

Garrett won three Sporting News Defensive Player of the Year awards in his time in Cleveland. He terrorized opposing QBs.

Shoot, he set the sack record on a team that was usually behind, which meant opponents usually ran the ball in the second half, which meant he had less chances to sack the quarterback. He was just that good.

Garrett wasn't perfect, but he was the best player Cleveland had for a decade.

Now he's gone, with records to show for it but no real legacy of winning.

That's what it is to be a Browns star in this era. You can shine, but the end result isn't usually a pretty picture.
