Burt Myers, one of Bowman Gray Stadium’s most decorated Modified drivers, added to his family’s winning lineage and trophy case on Saturday.
The Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Division has now seen Jason, Slate and 10-time champion Burt Myers all grab checkered flags in the last three races.
In addition to 100-lap Modified race, the three other divisions all took on the famed quarter-mile track too leading into this week’s first double points night of the 2026 season.
The QRC HVAC & Refrigeration Street Stock division saw a caution-plagued event cut short by a time limit. At the end of 15 laps, pole-sitter Kevin Gilbert remained out front to collect his second career win at Bowman Gray Stadium. Grabbing this checkered flag holds far greater significance than meets the eye, however because Gilbert continues to recover from a heart attack earlier this year.
“Thank God, He let me be here tonight,” Gilbert said. “I can’t say it enough, but I’m so grateful to be here and thankful.”
Behind Gilbert at the finish were Christian Joyce, Zac Cogar, points leader Brad Lewis, and Brandon Brown. QRC HVAC & Refrigeration Street Stock cars will be back in action Saturday with another 20-lap event.
Twin-20 lap features saw many highs and lows for a few contenders in the Law Offices of John Barrow Sportsman division. Race one went to Sterling Plemmons after the No. 03 muscled his way by Mitch Gales at the halfway point. Plemmons drew 10th for the Madhouse scramble in victory lane after his eighth career Bowman Gray Stadium win.
Race one’s top five behind Plemmons were Nate Gregg, Zack Ore, Tommy Neal, and Justin Taylor.
The second race featured a wild finish in a one-lap dash to the checkers. At halfway, Bryan Sykes Jr. spun Tommy Neal to take the lead, and later Nate Gregg was out front and within eyesight of his third win on the season. Gregg and Zack Ore made contact that allowed the driver of the No. 55 to pick up his third victory on the season to cap off the Sportsman doubleheader.
The rest of race two’s top five were Nate Gregg, Mitch Gales, points leader Billy Gregg, and Tommy Neal. The Law Offices of John Barrow Sportsman competitors return Saturday with a 100-lap race rescheduled from the week six rainout.
The Myers’ winning streak continued for a third-straight race in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Division.
The Elite Underground Utility 100 saw Burt Myers roll off 20th, inherit the lead on lap 70, and never look back in his maiden win of the season. This marks the 103rd career win at Bowman Gray Stadium for the 10-time champion, capped off by the showman’s bow to honor his late friend and racing icon Kyle Busch.
Burt’s brother, Jason, wrecked from the lead just past halfway, while his son, Slate, closely followed behind in a 1-2 finish.
“I was hoping [for a bump from Slate],” Burt Myers said. “What kind of dream is that to be racing your son for the win? On a 100-lapper right after he got his first win. But man, this is for Kyle Busch. I know everyone keeps saying that, but he was something else. He was riding with us tonight, so that’s awesome.”
Burt and Slate Myers were just ahead of Danny Bohn, Chris Fleming, and Mike Speeney at the finish.
Burt Myers only adds onto his championship standings lead with this first win of 2026. Thanks to his fourth-place finish, Fleming also takes home the $3,000 fan’s challenge bonus money. Brad’s Golf Cars Modifieds will take to the track again with Twin-25 lap races Saturday.
Rounding out the racing action for the night was a pair of 15-lap events for the Q104.1 Stadium Stock Division. Points leader Luke Smith remained undefeated when he took the lead at halfway in the first race to score his fifth trophy this season. Smith’s 5-0 start only trails Tony Hulin’s eight wins to open 1978 for most wins to start a Bowman Gray Stadium season.
Smith was followed across the stripe by Chuck Wall, Stephen Sanders, Brandon Brendle, and Tyler Rose.
Meanwhile race two saw a wild last lap where all four leaders collided out of turn two. The first man to escape this roadblock and get back to the finish line was Walkertown native Adam “P-Nut” Baker, taking home his first Bowman Gray Stadium victory. Baker led wire-to-wire in the biggest night yet of his young racing career.
“Man I had no idea what happened,” Baker said of the last-lap chaos. “I just felt boom, boom, boom, and I don’t know what, my spotter’s screaming, ‘Keep going!’ It came out straight, I just kept digging. I’m winded, holy cow this is awesome. I got to thank my parents, Austin Taylor for spotting for me, Cody for busting his tail every week, there’s a ton more people behind me. I can’t do this without everybody.”
Baker was followed to the line by Chris Allison, Cody Livengood, Jayden Andrews, and Zak Taylor.
Stock competitors will return in full force next week with a 50-lap race. In addition to the headlining Sportsman 100 and Stadium Stock 50 races, Saturday will also be a double points night for all Bowman Gray Stadium divisions, where every championship could change drastically.
