Well I think Petzing is a problem, and some is probably Kyler regression.

Overall I think this current team is more talented than most if not all of the Kingsbury era - and significantly younger with more potential to improve.

But QB and the offensive game plan is so important it can overcome that.
At some point you are what your record says you are, and potential is just something that hasn't happened yet. That said, it's still only week 5.

More talented than a team that started a season 10-1 in dominant fashion. Wild take.

The flip side of this is Keim also drafted pro bowlers
Keim's trades and free agents in his early years have also been skewed down in retrospect. In his first three years, he brought in Carson, Iupati, Veldheer, Dansby, etc. I would say all of them are better than anyone Monti has brought in for those same roles. And the next year he traded a for Chandler Jones. He obviously fell off in his later years, but he did vastly improve this team in his first few years with the same cheap owner.

The rules have been shifted to favor the offenses so much the past 20 years that the defenses are forced to focus on preventing explosives...and offenses are left with dink and dunk...the best teams have a couple YAC capable players who can create their own explosives from an 8 yard catch...but not everyone has a few of those guys..we certainly don't.

The end result, scoring is down and declining across the league

It's roundabout. But if you look around the league you see many teams have switched over to a shell style defense like the one we use. It's designed to slow offenses then Crack down in the redzone and force field goals instead of allowing touchdowns.
The end result is less overall scoring.

No it's just plain dumb.

Keim is 5X worse than Monti by any calculation. Almost all of Monti's picks are at least getting playing time, half of Keim's never even got on the field.
This has always been a terrible argument in favor of either the player or the gm. When a player gets snaps it’s just a matter of there not being a better player ahead of them. If the team stinks those snaps can be meaningless. Being the best of the worst is still being classified in the worst grouping. If anything it just shows that Monti can neither draft effectively nor sign impactful free agents. That’s a double rake to the *******.

As opposed to being so bad they get cut without ever playing - yeah it is. It means the coaching staff thinks they at least have potential
Or, more realistically, that they literally have no one else that is good enough to play for a sub .500 team.

This is not the thread where I will explain why I am generous with Wilson. There is another thread for that.

At some point you are what your record says you are, and potential is just something that hasn't happened yet. That said, it's still only week 5.
The irony of these two posts back to back aren’t lost on me.
