Not only did our defense play GREAT yesterday but it was on the 23rd anniversary of the Cardinals' game against the Baltimore Colts in which they sacked QB Bert Jones TWELVE times. Does anyone know who recorded those sacks? Maybe Jeff Golin can help.

I don't know if I can. I'll try.

Tell you what, though - I was at that game (drove down to Memorial Stadium from NJ with my kids).

Got it! It was Oct. 26, 1980. Jim Hanifan was head coach. There are no stats I could find on who got the sacks, but when you check out "most individual sacks in a game", you'll find that the Baltimore game is not listed - suggesting that the sacks were "spread around" among a lot of players. Media Guide lists the following "typical defensive line-up" for that year.

(Note - the 3-4 defense and also note that that year's sack leader, DE Curtis Greer was not listed - I'm pretty sure I remember him sacking Jones at least twice):

LDE - Bob Pollard
NT - Rush Brown
RDE - Ron Yankowski
LOLB - Steve Neils
LILB - Eric Williams and Calvin Favron
RILB - Tim (Clothes Line) Kearney
ROLB - Mark Arneson
LCB - Carl Allen, Tim Collier
RCB - Roger Wehrli
SS - Lee Nelson, Ken Greene
FS - Ken Stone, Roy Green (honest!)
K - Neil O Donoghue
P - Larry Swider

Not exactly the Steel Curtain, but they did rack up the 12 sacks.

Jeff, thanks. I guess Curtis Greer didn't start. Other than Roger Wehrli there wasn't much talent on that team, although I believe Ken Greene (Washington or Washington State) was a 1st round pick. And we all know where Roy Green ended up.
