Mount Union's Elijah Farrington, Shaun Vaden earn top OAC awards

ALLIANCE — Mount Union'sElijah Farrington and Shaun Vaden are among the top Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball award winners this season.

Farrington was selected the Dick Reynolds Player of the Year and a first team selection on the All-OAC team. Vaden was named the Jim Burson Defensive Player of the Year.

Farrington is the Purple Raiders' fourth player of the year since 2017. The 6-foot-7 junior forward averages 15.5 points and 8.2 rebounds and has recorded 10 double-doubles in 25 games. He leads the OAC in shooting at 55.8%, ranks seconed in rebounds and is also in the top 10 in the conference in points, free throw percentage and blocks.

In his first season of college basketball, Vaden led the OAC in blocks with 88 — 54 more than the next player. The 6-11 junior center ranks third in the nation in blocks and has more blocks than seven other OAC teams. He broke the Mount Union record for blocks in a season and blocks in a game when he had eight against Case Western Reserve.

Mount Union's Chance Casenhiser, Kevin Hamilton and Kevin Moore join Farrington on the All-OAC team.

Casenhiser, the Purple Raiders' leading scorer at 17.5 points a game, was selected to the first team. Hamilton and Moore were both named honorable mention.
