Marco Bezzecchi suffered a huge crash on just the second lap of the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen. The Aprilia rider was declared conscious and it is not believed he has suffered any broken bones - however he has been taken to the local hospital in Groningen.
Bezzecchi, who started the weekend as the championship leader, suffered the huge crash at Turn 15, also known as the "Ram's Hook/Ramshoek". It means that his once-solid championship lead has now been eroded completely after three weekends without scoring points in main races.
So far this season, Bezzecchi's Sunday form has generally been good, with Saturdays sprints letting him down primarily. Following the turn 1 crash in Hungary and his controversial race ban at the Czech Grand Prix for slapping a trackside marshal, Bezzecchi has now dropped to second in the standings behind Jorge Martin. The top five in the championship are now separate by just 40 points with 12 rounds still remaining.
