We are hearing more rumbles that Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has eyes for Massachusetts as a new basketball home. Per recent reporting from the New York Times' Eric Nehm and Sam Amick, the Greek Freak has interest in playing for the Boston Celtics.
"While league sources have long maintained that he’s interested in joining the (Miami) Heat, there are also indications that he’s very intrigued with the prospect of joining a Celtics team that, by any objective measure, is deeper and more dynamic than Miami’s and could thus remain more competitive after a blockbuster deal," writes the duo, pointing to the Bucks' star desire to land on a playoff-bound ball club.
Still, such moves take two to tango, and when it comes to Boston, there has not been much fire to the proverbial smoke, according to Amick and Nehm.
Pointing to Jaylen Brown's comments after the Celtics lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2026 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs, the duo note that in the wake of speculation the Georgia native might be unhappy, "the Celtics took measures, both publicly and privately, to insist that this storyline was overblown."
They suggest that any actual pursuit of Antetokounmpo would be discreet given this context, but do not go so far as to say they are hearing anything about one. Generally speaking, Boston moves in silence when it comes to roster moves of this (or any) stature, so they may have a point -- but Celtics president Brad Stevens rarely does the thing the public expects, as well.
