Maryland women’s lacrosse’s 12-0 start to the season has seen the Terps hit heights that have regularly been achieved both under head coach Cathy Reese and in the years before her.

After a mixed beginning to the 2020s, the Terps seem to have risen back toward the pinnacle of women’s lacrosse — an ascension that has been recognized by their return to the top spot in the polls.

Maryland’s most recent game, a 14-13 victory over Penn State that Jude Wilkenfeld covered for Testudo Times, saw the Terps’ trademark offense hit early and often. Defensively, Maryland had its worst game in over a month, but it still had enough in the tank to come out on top and preserve the undefeated start.

Attacker Lauren LaPointe was key to that victory — and has been key to the Terps’ overall success this season. Her 63 points on the year are 17 more than any other Terp and rank third in the Big Ten. LaPointe has exploded onto the scene this year following a remarkable story of resilience and perseverance.

The Terps will hope to persevere as the nation’s top-ranked and sole undefeated team when they host Rutgers on April 4 at noon.
