Alright, with MLB Trade Deadline chatter picking up across the major leagues, the Colorado Rockies are involved in it.
With a poor overall record at 39-59, 20 games below .500, just who in the world might Colorado deal away in the next two-plus weeks? According to MLB.com, the Rockies have "everybody and nobody" available to trade away.
"There is no big contract to unload. There also isn't an untouchable player, although it would be hard to move two-time All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman (under club control through 2029) or shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (signed through 2030 with a '31 club option)," according to the story.
"The team’s outfield prospect depth makes it logical to move Jake McCarthy and/or Mickey Moniak, but there is club control attached to both," the story continued.
"In fact, every daily position player is under control at least through next year, and the club should use that as leverage," MLB.com continued. "Most likely, the volatility can come in the bullpen. There are veterans (Antonio Sensatela, Jimmy Herget, Brennan Bernardino and new closer Jordan Romano), and -- much like last year -- young, hard throwers will be popular asks."
That is a lot of names being put forth by this article. McCarthy and Moniak have been connected with the Houston Astros, while Senzatela has been connected with the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres.
Now, Rockies fans wait to see what takes place under the watch of Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta.
McCarthy has provided hustle and grit while playing, where he shows off a devil-may-care attitude in all aspects of his game. Moniak also shares similar qualities to McCarthy, but he's one player that DePodesta might not deal away.
Senzatela has been one of the most effective relievers out of the Rockies' bullpen for manager Warren Schaeffer. He's 9-2 overall entering the second half of the 2026 MLB season.
If DePodesta decides to ship off a couple of starting pitchers or relief pitchers to other teams, then the hope is that anyone who comes into the organization will contribute. It might be right away or, after spending some time playing for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, getting called up later this season.
The awful start record-wise to the 2026 MLB season didn't reflect well on Colorado at all. Now, they have been playing better baseball in June and July, but those bad first three months really set the tone in a bad, bad way.
Of course, DePodesta just might deal a couple of players. Then again, he might just decide to sell off as many players as possible and get things in shape for the 2027 season.
The big question around MLB right now is will there be a 2027 season as the Major League Baseball Players Association and the owners can't agree on a new contract.
Time will tell when it comes to the Rockies' future this season. They have shown an ability to rally in games a lot. So, everyone has to take a wait-and-see attitude on potential changes to the Rockies' 40-man roster.
