You can't make everyone happy. On Monday, Washington Commanders managing partner Josh Harris and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced plans for a new state-of-the-art stadium in the District, which is expected to open in 2030.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was on hand for the monumental event, and so were Washington legends Joe Gibbs, Darrell Green, John Riggins and Doug Williams. Commanders general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn were also there.
The vibes were great. There was clapping after almost every sentence at one time. Harris and Bowser praised one another and their roles in getting this across the finish line.
But not everyone wants the Commanders to build a new stadium in D.C., particularly if any of the expenses fall on the taxpayers. The cost is reportedly $3.7 billion, with the Commanders covering around $2.7 billion, which is unprecedented in recent times.
The renderings of the potential new stadium were phenomenal. If the end result is what we saw in these renderings, the Commanders will have the nicest stadium in all of sports.
On social media, most people were happy, with many holding fond memories of attending games at RFK Stadium in their childhood. Overall, the reactions were mixed, although they were more positive than negative.

D.C. Council Chair is also a 'no' for now
DC Council Chair Phil Mendelson says there aren’t 7 council members (needed to pass vote) supporting the stadium project at this time.

Like so many Washingtonians, the best memories of my youth were in these seats at RFK Stadium with my family. Visions can come true and we are bringing the team home!! @Commanderspic.twitter.com/64ptpzmb8j

My first #NFL football game I ever attended as a kid was here…in 1981…Seattle @ Washington. My first ever regular season road football game I ever played in as a pro was here in 1992…Atlanta @ Washington. This is where the franchise belongs. https://t.co/lqeho2yek1

Sports matter in a divided society. I can't think of the Caps' 2018 Stanley Cup run without the huge crowds OUTSIDE of Capital One Arena. The entire neighborhood that's grown around Nats Park. RFK Stadium played that role once. It can do so again. Also that's a hell of a view. https://t.co/WzDPG7Fycf

Fan reactions
RFK hosted some of my best childhood memories. Next stadium will never be as dear to me, but it will bring the team back a little closer to what I once loved.

Jayden Daniels opening the new RFK stadium in 2030 still being in his prime and hopefully healthy is going to be a movie. pic.twitter.com/Q5aGdxRNZk

Jayden Daniels will be 29 years old and hopefully will have hoisted at least one Lombardi when the new stadium @ RFK opens in 2030.
None of this could have been typed just 24 months ago.
Thank you, Josh Harris.

Im super excited for a new stadium, but I am NOT at the same time.
Im concerned the stadium will price out the majority of current season ticket holders.
PSLs are a trend in the new stadiums.
Season ticket cost + PSL cost.
Could be an additional 2.5k/8k per seat. pic.twitter.com/TN90pwXs5p

Josh Harris in less than 24 months has gotten more done than Dan Snyder did in 24 years.
