The Mississippi State Bulldogs softball team will make history Thursday with the first-ever appearance in the Women’s College World Series against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Oklahoma City.

Mississippi State (43-19) earned its spot in the WCWS with a commanding 6-0 win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the decisive game of the super regionals, and now faces a familiar opponent with a trip deeper into the bracket at stake.

Texas Tech (57-7) eliminated the Bulldogs in last year’s NCAA Tournament and arrives with one of the nation’s most dangerous combinations of elite pitching and explosive offense. The Red Raiders rank among the national leaders in batting average, home runs and runs scored, led by slugger Mia Williams. In the circle, Texas Tech features standout arms NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry, who have built one of college softball’s top pitching staffs all season.

But Mississippi State enters with momentum and confidence after shutting out Oklahoma. Delainey Everett delivered a breakout performance in that win, while Peja Goold and SEC Newcomer of the Year Alyssa Faircloth give the Bulldogs valuable depth.
