STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football is working to get former players Malick Sylla and Jahron Manning back on the roster with both players currently on campus, a program spokesperson confirmed to the Clarion Ledger on Aug. 10.
Manning and Sylla would both be playing on a fifth year of eligibility stemming from the July 31 preliminary injunction issued in Colorado that granted some athletes in the 2022 high school class one more year of eligibility after they weren't included for a fifth year in the NCAA's new age-based model. It applies to athletes who haven't redshirted or signed professional contracts.
Sylla, a linebacker who led MSU with seven tackles for loss in 2025, played four seasons in college and did not sign a professional contract. Manning, a safety who was MSU's leading tackler in 2025, also played four seasons but attended rookie minicamp with the Atlanta Falcons and played in the Indoor Football League.
The NCAA is appealing the court ruling.
