Misdemeanor charges filed against ESPN’s Matt Miller

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller has been charged with a misdemeanor for the June car accident that left him in need of multiple surgeries.

According to a court filing in Jasper County, Mo., on Monday, Miller is facing charges for failing to drive on the right half of a roadway, resulting in an accident.

Previously, TMZ released footage from the other driver’s dashcam in the accident, who was operating a semi-truck. The footage showed Miller suddenly veering into the truck, and the initial accident report indicated that he was subsequently ejected from his vehicle. Miller has said he underwent multiple surgeries to aid in his recovery, one of which seemingly was to amputate his arm.

Miller is due in the Jasper County Circuit Court on Sept. 21.

The news of Miller’s charges was first reported by local reporter Robert Turner on his website, the Turner Report.

The accident, which Miller himself revealed online, set off a series of revelations about his conduct throughout his career in NFL media. It also led Miller’s family to create a since-paused GoFundMe campaign that drew donations from top ESPN talent.

Shortly after the crash, Awful Announcing reported on dozens of allegations spanning Miller’s entire career relating to unpaid winnings from charity fantasy football leagues. Others accused Miller of collecting payments for NFL draft scouting lessons he never delivered.

The charity, 417 Foundation, that Miller purportedly directed money toward through his frequent charitable fundraising, was issued a cease-and-desist order by the Missouri Secretary of State in 2019. Miller continued to collect money for the charity after that.

Following Awful Announcing’s reporting, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office launched an investigation into complaints of financial impropriety around Miller and the charity.

Miller posted on X on July 10 that he was “stepping away indefinitely” from ESPN while he recovered. The company is expected to give its own statement on the AG investigation and deeper allegations facing Miller.

ESPN did not offer further comment Tuesday following the Jasper County charges.
