It is March and it is championship season for multiple Minnesota Golden Gophers teams. We have the gymnastics team at the Big Ten Championships while women’s swimming, wrestling, and women’s basketball all take place in the NCAA Championships this weekend! The spring sport are in full swing as well, so it’s a busy weekend ahead. As always we have the full schedule below and how you can catch all the action.
Friday March 20th:
Women’s Swimming @ NCAA Championships 9 AM ESPN+
Day three of the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships kicks off at 9 AM from Georgia Tech University. All the action will stream on ESPN+. Friday’s prelims will feature a trio of Gophers with Katie McCarthy swimming in the 500 Free and Elna Widerstrom and Vivi Del Angel taking place in the 3 meter diving competition. Prelims take place beginning at 9 AM with the finals beginning at 5 PM.
Track and Field @ USF 9 AM ESPN+
The Gopher men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams head to Tampa, Florida for the USF Alumni Invitational this weekend. Action will begin at 9 AM Friday morning and continue all day Friday and into Saturday. Action will stream on ESPN+
Wrestling @ NCAA Championships 11 AM ESPNU/ESPN2
The second day of the NCAA Wrestling Championships kicks off at 11 AM on ESPNU with the Quarterfinals and wrestlebacks at 11 AM Friday morning. All six Gophers made it through the first round on Thursday morning with three of the six in Jore Volk, Vance VomBauer and Max McEnelly advancing to the quarterfinals. The other three will be in the wrestlebacks trying to keep their podium chances alive. The semifinals and more wrestlebacks will air on ESPN2 at 7 PM.
Baseball @ Indiana 5 PM B1G+
The Gopher baseball team returns to the rod again for their second conference series on the season when they take on the Indiana Hoosiers. Minnesota opened Big Ten play going 1-2 at Illinois last weekend. They lost 7-4 on Tuesday night to North Dakota State in 11 innings at US Bank Stadium to close out the interior portion of the home schedule.
The Hoosiers enter the weekend with a 7-12 overall record and a 1-5 Big Ten record. They were swept last weekend at Oregon.
#4Women’s Basketball vs #13 Green Bay 5 PM ESPNU
The Gopher women’s basketball team opens the First Round of the NCAA Tournament by hosting the Green bay Phoenix at 5 PM on ESPNU. The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of the game between #5 seed Ole Miss and #12 Gonzaga on Sunday at Williams Arena.
Minnesota is making their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2018, and their first time hosting the opening two rounds since 2005. A full preview of the game is HERE.
Softball @ Iowa 6 PM B1G+
The Gopher softball team hits the road again for their second Big Ten series of the season, this time in Iowa City. Minnesota has struggled this season entering the weekend with a 9-19 overall record and a 1-2 record in conference play. Iowa is 18-8 and 4-2 in the Big Ten this season. The Hawkeyes have been one of the more productive offenses in the conference, hitting .325 as a team with 169 runs and 35 home runs through their first 26 games.
Minnesota has won eight straight games over the Hawkeyes, but that streak is in definately danger this weekend. First pitch is set for 6 PM on B1G+.
Saturday March 21st:
Women’s Swimming @ NCAA Championships 9 AM ESPN+
The final day of the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships kicks off with prelims at 9 AM Saturday morning. Competing on Saturday for the Gophers will be Rachel Conley in the200 Fly and Vivi Del Angel and Annalei Dow in the Platform Diving. Finals will again be at 5 PM. All action will stream on ESPN+
Track and Field @ USF 9 AM ESPN+
Day two of the USF Alumni Invite meet is set for a 9 AM start on Saturday from Tampa. All of the action will stream on ESPN+.
Wrestling @ NCAA Championships 10 AM ESPNU/ESPN
Day three of the NCAA Wrestling Championships kicks off at 10 AM with the medal rounds live on ESPNU. The Championship matches are set for a 5:30 PM start from Cleveland and will air live on ESPN.
Tennis @ Rutgers 11 AM
The Gopher tennis team heads to New Jersey for a Big Ten match against Rutgers this Saturday morning. Minnesota is still looking for their first conference win on the season after being swept by Indiana and Purdue on the road last weekend. Minnesota bounced back for a midweek home 7-0 sweep of South Dakota State on Wednesday.
Rutgers enters the weekend with a 7-6 overall record and a 0-3 record in the Big Ten with losses to Washington, Oregon and Maryland. A free livestream will be available HERE.
Softball @ Iowa 1 PM B1G+
Game two of the series between the Gophers and Hawkeyes is set for a 1 PM first pitch in Iowa City.
Baseball @ Indiana 1 PM B1G+
Game two between the Gophers and Hoosiers is a 1 PM first pitch on B1G+.
#13 Gymnastics @ Big Ten Championships 5 PM BTN
The #13 ranked Gopher gymnastics team heads to the Big Ten Championships at Illinois on Saturday night where they will compete in the third and final session. The Gophers finished in second place in the Big Ten regular season with a 7-2 record behind only 9-0 #5 UCLA. They will join the Gophers in the final session along with a pair of teams Minnesota defeated at home this season in #10 Michigan and #11 Michigan State. The Gophers are in search of their seventh Big Ten Championships victory of all-time and first since 2021.
Minnesota has performed against a difficult schedule this season but are 6-2 against teams ranked in the Top 25 of the nation. They enter the Big Ten Championships ranked #13 overall and 17th on vault, 17th on bars, 8th on beam, and 15th on floor. That is the order the Gophers will rotate at the Big Ten Championships on Saturday night.
The Gophers will find out their NCAA region on Monday when the NCAA Regional pairings are announced. It will be a tough field as if the pods were announced today the Gophers would be in a group with #4 Alabama, #5 UCLA and #12 Utah—two of which has allready defeated Minnesota this season. They Gophers would need to be one of the top two teams at the Regional to qualify for the NCAA Championship Meet.
The action on Saturday begins at 5 PM and will air live on Big Ten Network.
Sunday March 22nd:
Tennis @ Maryland 11 AM
The Gopher tennis team continues their eastern road trip with a match at Maryland at 11 AM on Sunday. .The Terrapins are 10-2 on the season and 2-1 in Big Ten play with wins over Rutgers and Oregon and a loss to Washington. Maryland hosts Wisconsin on Saturday. A free livestream on Sunday’s match is HERE.

Women’s Basketball Vs TBD ESPN
The Second Round of the NCAA Tournament will take place Sunday from Williams Arena with their the Gophers or Green Bay taking on either Ole Miss or Gonzaga. Game times will be announced by the NCAA and ESPN after the completion of Friday’s games.
