New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye might have to wait to make his preseason debut.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick,Patriots coach Mike Vrabel stated prior to the team’s training camp practice on Tuesday that he does not expect Maye to play in the team’s preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Patriots are set to host the Colts in their first preseason game on Thursday. Maye has been healthy throughout training camp, but he is likely to get the day off to begin the three-game slate.
Patriots backup quarterback Tommy DeVito will be in line to start in the event that Maye sits out. The Patriots also have rookie quarterback Behren Morton as their QB3.
Maye, last season’s AP MVP runner-up, will have New England’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on August 22 to look forward to playing in the following week, should he miss the opener.
