Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout recorded four hits in Sunday’s win over the San Francisco Giants, marking his first four-hit effort since 2021.
Trout hit three singles and a double during Sunday’s game, scoring once in the effort. His last four-hit game came on April 26, 2021, shortly after returning from a bruised elbow. He also had three singles and a double in that game, driving in two runs.
The future Hall of Famer’s 21 four-hit games rank tie him for ninth-most among active players, level with Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado. Ahead of him are Jose Altuve, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, Luis Arraez and Paul Goldschmidt.
Trout has been one of the best players in baseball this season, let along the Angels, and his results this season show it. He made his first All-Star Game since 2023 this season, and currently has 18 homers and 40 RBIs. His .866 OPS leads qualified Angels hitters, and his 74 walks lead the team by a wide margin—the next-closest player being Zach Neto with 46.

While Trout has been impressive for the Angels this season, the Angels as a whole have not. After their win Sunday, they have a 42-64 record, which is the worst record in the American League. They’re far out of playoff contention, and all signs point to another season without October baseball.
Having recently replaced general manager Perry Minasian with interim GM John Mozeliak, the Angels could make some more ambitious moves at the deadline to improve their chances of contending down the road. They have several players who hold value as Aug. 3 approaches, and could ship them off for significant hauls due to their remaining control.
Trout, of course, is not included in that list of players.
“That’s not happening,” Mozeliak said about a potential Trout trade.
The Angels rarely sell at the deadline, but if they do so this season, they could set themselves up for success before Trout calls it quits on a magical career in Orange County.
