Last season, as a rookie, cornerback Beanie Bishop finished second on the team with four interceptions. However, it never mattered how well Bishop played, whenever head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about Bishop, he seemed dismissive and quick to downplay his accomplishments. In the 2025 offseason, the Steelers rebuilt their cornerback depth chart and essentially wrote Bishop out of the script completely.

Bishop eventually found himself on the practice squad and it seemed with each passing week of struggles by veteran Darius Slay, along with injuries, Bishop would get another chance. But it wasn't meant to be as the team released Bishop from the practice squad. The media asked Tomlin about the release of the fan favorite and Tomlin was borderline disrespectful toward the player who did so well for the Steelers just a season before.

"I'm not getting into practice squad decisions," Tomlin said. "That's just too far down the totem pole."

Meanwhile, the Steelers have moved cornerback Jalen Ramsey to free safety due to injuries, which leaves the Steelers even thinner at the position.
