The FSU Seminoles held their final scrimmage of fall camp on Sunday in Doak Campbell Stadium, and while head coach Mike Norvell said the defense won the day, he also praised several offensive players. One of whom is quarterback Ashton Daniels.
The veteran is entering his first season with the Florida State football program, but wasted little time impressing Norvell.
"I love what I've seen from him throughout this first 10 days," Norvell said. "Just his ownership of the offense, understanding where to go, what to do. How he's been able to perform, I think he's done a really good job."
Daniels, who spent time with the Stanford Cardinal and Auburn Tigers, was not perfect in the scrimmage, but Norvell still liked what he saw from him, with several of his drives ending in touchdowns.
"Tonight, there were a few opportunities that he created, and then there was a few opportunities that we can continue to grow and be better at," he explained. "As we're mixing different personnel, different guys. I think he's got a great understanding and has been highly efficient and explosive in the things we've asked him to do."
One of the strengths of FSU's roster is the skill talent around Daniels, which will allow FSU not to put too much pressure on Daniels. That could be critical as Daniels has struggled with protecting the ball during his career, an area he improved in last season and has seemingly taken another step this offseason.
The skill talent once again showed up in the scrimmage, with Norvell saying running backs Samuel Singleton Jr. and Ousmane Kromah both ran hard and that Singleton had a "big run." Duce Robinson and Micahi Danzy are proven at the wide receiver position, but he also mentioned Tae'Shaun Gelsey and Jasen Lopez as players emerging behind them.
