There are more than a few Notre Dame football reunions happening in the coming season, and for now former defensive backs coach Mike Mickens, he’ll be joined by another former Irish alum in Baltimore.
It was announced on Monday by Adam Schefter that the Ravens will hire Anthony Weaver, who played for the Irish and was a second round pick in 2002. Previously the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, he’ll take over the same role in Baltimore.
While Weaver didn’t coach in South Bend, he spent two seasons in college before moving to the NFL level following his playing career. Follow those seasons he’d start in the NFL as a defensive line coach, getting elevated to defensive coordinator with the Houston Texans in 2020.
He’d join the Ravens for the first time in 2021, as their defensive line coach, and in 2023 earned the title of assistant head coach. Weaver would start with Miami in 2024 and stayed for two seasons.
It will be great to see the Notre Dame influence with Baltimore this year, along with star safety Kyle Hamilton, the Ravens have a distinct Notre Dame feel.
