The Los Angeles Dodgers have yet to re-sign free agent utility man Kiké Hernández this offseason.

Hernández has won three World Series championships with the Dodgers throughout his career. He also broke the record for the most postseason games played with the franchise during Game 7 of the World Series in 2025.

Los Angeles signed Hernández to a one-year, $6.5 million deal for the 2025 season in February last year. Now that February has officially arrived, a big question surrounding the Dodgers is when and if the franchise will re-sign Hernández.

Dodgers veteran Miguel Rojas told reporters he is confident the Dodgers will re-sign Hernández. He said all of the Dodgers players want Hernández to be back with the team for the 2026 season.

“I’m in constant communication with Kiké. I have no doubt that he’s gonna be back. Everybody in this clubhouse wants him back,” Rojas said to Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain at DodgerFest 2026 on Saturday.

Rojas was also a free agent this offseason. The Dodgers were much quicker to re-sign Rojas than the franchise has been with Hernández.

Rojas signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Dodgers in December and will finish his playing career with Los Angeles in 2026. After retiring next season, Rojas is set to help in player development and contribute to the Dodgers’ front office in 2027.

Hernández Will Miss Start of 2026 Season

Hernández underwent surgery on his left elbow in November after the World Series. He told reporters he had been dealing with the injury for the majority of the season but wanted to continue playing for as long as he could.

Hernández will miss the 2026 World Baseball Classic in March due to the surgery. He also said that he would miss “a month or two” of the 2026 season in an interview on “Baseball & Coffee” in November.

The Athletic’s Katie Woo said Hernández’s recovery is likely a reason the Dodgers have not re-signed him this offseason. Woo believes the Dodgers will sign him closer to Opening Day, so that he can be placed on the 60-day injured list.

“There’s no reason to sign Kiké right now because he’s going to take one of those very valuable 40-man spots when he could potentially start the year on the IL,” Woo said on Dodgers Territory.

Hernández re-signed with the Dodgers on Feb. 26 last year. Therefore, it is likely the Dodgers will wait a few more weeks before officially inking a deal with Hernández.
