Mics picked up umpire's NSFW reaction to taking a 9th-inning foul ball to the groin

Umpire Laz Díaz was so close to making it to the All-Star break without a painful moment behind the plate. But the baseball gods had other ideas on Sunday.

We could hear that frustration too on the broadcast.

Díaz was the home plate umpire for the Twins' game against the Angels, and we just knew that Díaz was looking forward to that extended break once the game hit the ninth inning.

But with Andrew Morris on the mound to face the pinch hitter Wade Meckler, Díaz would get the absolute worst of the nine-pitch at-bat. Of all the times for this to happen, it just had to be with two outs in the ninth inning. (Warning: Video contains strong language)



Díaz ended up taking a foul ball to the groin, and when the ball boy came to home plate, mics picked up the umpire saying, "(Expletive), had to be the last (expletive) inning. (Expletive)!"

Just to add insult to injury, the game would extend a couple more at-bats until Logan O'Hoppe flied out to end the game. Let's hope Díaz brings an ice pack with him this All-Star break. He might need one.
