Michigan State baseball saw its starting shortstop Dayton Murphy enter the NCAA transfer portal, and now, they will see him take his talents to a fellow Big Ten program. Purdue has landed the commitment of Murphy, who will be joining the Boilermakers in 2027.

Murphy, a Crystal Lake, Ill. native, spent two years with the MSU program. Taking over the starting shortstop role in 2026, playing in 49 games while starting 45 of them. He hit .267 with a .685 OPS. As a freshman, Murphy played in 42 games, making 31 starts where he hit .186.

Michigan State will now be tasked with finding a new starting shortstop for 2027.
