Another big recruiting weekend finished with a flourish for Pat Fitzgerald and Michigan State football.
The Spartans picked up two more commitments for their 2027 class late Sunday night, June 7, with the additions of Colorado tight end Ryan Pankey and Texas wide receiver Zach Forbish. The addition of the duo ups Fitzgerald’s first full recruiting class to 13 pledges, with six of them joining the group in the first week of June.
Pankey, who is from Montrose, Colorado, is rated the No. 109 athlete and No. 1,369 prospect in the nation according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. The 6-foot-6, 230-pounder picked MSU over Colorado State, Oregon State, Washington State, UNLV and others.
The 6-2, 190-pound Forbish is unranked by 247Sports.com but had generated significant interest and scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Colorado State, San Diego State and others. Forbish caught 43 passes for 798 yards with 12 touchdowns last season, according to the Dallas Morning News. He's also a talented sprinter who ran a 10.95 in the 100 meters in March at the Prosper Dan Christie Relays and a 23.02 in the 200 meters in February at The Colony Cougar Invitational.
The commits come in the wake of Gideon Gash, the No. 2 player in Michigan and No. 70 player in the nation's 2027 recruiting class, choosing Texas Tech over MSU.
