EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan State scores three unanswered runs after the first inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Spartans fall to No. 1 UCLA 4-3.

UCLA came out on fire in the first inning scoring four runs. Payton Breenan drove in two runs, followed up by Cashel Dugger who drove in two runs as well.

From there, Michigan State’s defense stood tall and didn’t allow another run after the first inning.

The Spartans would respond back in the second inning as Parker Picot would send frozen rope down the left field line to bring home CJ Deckinga from second base.

With bases loaded in the fifth, Deckinga was walked to bring home Isaac Sturgess, cutting the deficit to two.

In the eighth, Dayton Murphy hits a grounder to first and Picot would score on a fielders choice, as UCLA still led by one. Michigan State wouldn’t be able to score again.

UCLA and Michigan State wrap up their series on Sunday, with first pitch set for 12:02p.m.
