One of the biggest reasons Miami enters the season with championship aspirations is because of what it has in the backfield.

This running back room combines power, explosiveness, experience, and youth, giving Miami one of the deepest running back groups in all of college football.

Whether the Hurricanes are looking to control games late, create explosive plays, or keep fresh legs throughout a long season, Mario Cristobal and new running backs coach Favian Upshaw have no shortage of options.

#4 – Mark Fletcher Jr.

If there’s one player who embodies Miami football, it’s Mark Fletcher Jr.

After electing to return for one more season, Fletcher enters the year as the unquestioned leader of the running back room. At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, he’s one of the most physical backs in the country, but what separates him isn’t just his size.

His patience, vision, and ability to consistently finish runs are second to none and one of the main reasons why the Hurricanes made a deep playoff push last season.

There is a real argument for Fletcher being the best RB in the country, despite a couple of outlets ranking him behind players like Kewan Lacy of Ole Miss and even Ahmad Hardy of Missouri.

Fletcher finished the season with 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns, as he’s the tone-setter of the offense. When Miami wants to impose its will, Fletcher is usually the answer.

His experience in pass protection and ability to handle short-yardage situations make him an every-down back, and his leadership has become just as valuable as his production.

With another season similar to last year, Fletcher has an opportunity to cement himself among the better running backs in recent Hurricanes history and become a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

#6 – CharMar Brown

CharMar Brown provides that power element in the room that can’t be replicated.

Despite Fletcher being known for being a great power back, he provides other abilities that separate him from the others. With Brown, it is straight power, and the opposing defense knows it.

The former North Dakota State standout brought a different style to the offense. A downhill runner with burst that may catch defenses by surprise, who rarely goes down after first contact. Brown complements Fletcher perfectly, giving Miami another physical option capable of handling a significant workload.

We saw that in the playoffs as Brown had critical late-game drives against Ohio State and Ole Miss.

The Hurricanes can rotate two starting-caliber backs while maintaining the same physical identity that has become a staple under Cristobal.

Brown should once again play a major role in both early-down situations and late-game drives when Miami looks to wear defenses down.

#2 – Jordan Lyle

If there is anyone who is due for a breakout season, it is Jordan Lyle.

Few players on Miami’s roster possess as much untapped potential as Lyle, but an injury early in his career and a crowded depth chart have limited his opportunities.

Talent is never questioned when it comes to him because Lyle may be the most explosive runner in the room. His acceleration through the hole and ability to create chunk plays make him a constant home-run threat whenever he touches the football.

Of course you can’t talk about the RB room without mentioning Jordan Lyle. The local star from STA still likely has his best games ahead of him. Love his balance after contact. Has great speed and vision. Could have a breakout year. pic.twitter.com/9OcOZYNuj1

After his freshman season, where he averaged over seven yards per carry, the expectations for Lyle skyrocketed and rightfully so.

Fans should not be surprised if the 1-2 combo out of the backfield consists of Fletcher and Lyle this year.

If Miami can consistently get Lyle involved, he could become one of the offense’s biggest difference-makers.

#0 – Girard Pringle Jr.

Girard Pringle Jr. quietly put together an impressive freshman campaign, showing flashes every time his number was called.

His combination of speed and vision gives Miami another dynamic option, and he enters the season with significantly more confidence after gaining valuable experience as a true freshman.

Pringle doesn’t need to be the featured back to make an impact, and it showed last year.

He had 62 rushing attempts for 375 yards and four TDs, adding four receptions for 53 yards and a TD. The bulk of that production came in just a few games. When given the main role, he also showed that he was more than ready. With guys banged up for the NC State game, Pringle got 17 rushing attempts and ran for 116 yards.

It was impressive to see his flashes as a true freshman last season.

With Fletcher leading the room, Pringle has the luxury of continuing his development without the pressure of carrying the offense, but can expand his role to provide significant contributions in his sophomore season.

That should only accelerate his long-term growth, as the future is bright for him.

Deepest RB room in the country?

Evaluating the rooms around the country, this is the deepest running back room in America.

Miami has a proven workhorse in Mark Fletcher Jr., an experienced complement in CharMar Brown, an explosive playmaker in Jordan Lyle, and an ascending young talent in Girard Pringle Jr.

That is a college football coach’s dream.

Does Miami have the best RB room in all of #CFB in 2026? I believe they have a legitimate argument. This RB room not only has an elite veteran but very good young talent as well.

The biggest challenge won’t be finding production; it will be distributing carries among four players who are all capable of contributing and impacting winning at a high-level.

It was a great surprise that the RB room stayed intact, knowing that they could’ve gone elsewhere and started at another program and be one of the best backs in the country.

The fact that they all decided to come back tells you a lot about their character and willingness to compete and be the best.

Shades of what the Hurricanes were back in the day.

If Miami makes another deep playoff push this season, which is now the expectation, all four of these running backs will need to contribute throughout the duration of the season.
