MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins selected Missouri receiver Kevin Coleman in the fifth round of the NFL Draft.
The pick was one of two selections late in the fifth round acquired in a trade with Dallas.
Coleman, from St. Louis, is 5-10 1/4 and 179 pounds.
Coleman has made the rounds, never playing for one college for two consecutive years. He started in 2022 Jackson State, then went to Louisville, Mississippi State and finally Missouri.
Last season he had 66 receptions for 732 yards (11.1 average).
In 2024 he had 74 catches for 932 yards (12.6) and six TDs.
NFL.com's Lance Zierlein wrote, "Slot-only wideout who could use a defined role and continuity after playing for four different schools in four years. Coleman has the speed to create opportunities on slot fades and skinny posts downfield. His route running has room for improvement, but it’s average for a draftable prospect. While he lacks ideal size, he has adequate hands and toughness in traffic. His ability to handle utility plays and return punts will add a dimension to his game, provided he becomes a more well-rounded target from the slot."
The Dolphins can't be accused of not acting after losing Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill.
The Dolphins also took Texas Tech receiver Caleb Douglas and Louisville receiver Chris Bell, both in the third round.
Together with Coleman, they'll join a room led by Malik Washington in 2026. It'll be a wide-open opportunity for someone to stand out and earn playing time.
