The New York Mets came into the 2026 MLB trade deadline as clear sellers, and there were a lot of players expected to draw interest.

By the end of the deadline, they traded away a ton of talent and came away with some very intriguing prospects. So, how did they do overall?

ESPN's Alden Gonzalez and Kiley McDaniel both noted the Mets, along with the Baltimore Orioles, "got enough value back" across their trade deadline deals. It was a successful deadline for the Mets, and that was despite one clear issue: a lack of many truly appealing trade targets.

"This was a very important deadline for Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns, but outside of Holmes and Luke Weaver, he didn't have a ton of appealing players," Gonzalez writes.

McDaniel backed that sentiment up by noting, "Since the Mets weren't dealing a number of controllable, standout players, the returns weren't as impactful or noisy as Baltimore's additions."

But, despite both ESPN analysts noting the issue the Mets had with their overall lackluster pool of tradeable players, the Mets did well on their returns.

Being able to land Jefferson Rojas from the Chicago Cubs in the trade that sent Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor to Chicago was a massive move. His addition alone makes this trade deadline feel like a success.

Luke Weaver was the other notable player dealt at the deadline by the Cubs, and he brought back a top Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect in Sammy Stafura, who happens to be a big Mets fan.

The deals involving Freddy Peralta, Brooks Raley, Huascar Brazoban, A.J. Minter, and David Peterson weren't exactly the most exciting, but they were all necessary moves for players set to be free agents after the season ends.

While the Mets didn't trade players like Francisco Alvarez, Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, Kodai Senga, Luis Robert Jr., or Francisco Lindor at the deadline, they were still able to land a solid pool of prospects.

The 2026 season hasn't been a good one at all for the Mets, but at the very least, they're walking away from the MLB trade deadline with a nice prospect haul that should help them in 2027 and beyond.
