The New York Mets' recent 4-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks underscored ongoing challenges despite star outfielder Juan Soto's impressive performance. Soto, who signed a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets, hit his first two home runs at Citi Field in the game, providing the team's only runs.
Despite his efforts, the Mets' offense struggled, managing only five hits and going 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Pitcher Kodai Senga lasted just four innings, and the bullpen faltered, with Reed Garrett surrendering a crucial ninth-inning homer. This defeat marked the Mets' first consecutive home losses of the season and ended their franchise-record streak of 10 straight home series wins.

Amidst a demanding stretch of 13 consecutive games, the Mets are reportedly making strategic roster adjustments. They are calling up right-handed pitching prospect Blade Tidwell from Triple-A Syracuse to start Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Tidwell, ranked as the Mets' No. 15 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, has posted a 5.00 ERA with 37 strikeouts over 27 innings in six starts this season.
The 23-year-old was selected in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft and is known for his high-velocity pitches. His promotion aims to strengthen the rotation during this grueling period, replacing the temporary sixth spot previously filled by Justin Hagenman and Brandon Waddell.
Looking ahead, the Mets will face the Cardinals in a three-game series in St. Louis. Clay Holmes and Tylor Megill are slated to start the first two games, with Tidwell making his MLB debut in the finale. The Mets (21-11) aim to rebound from their recent setbacks and maintain their strong standing in the National League East.
