The New York Mets are going through some of the biggest struggles of any team this season, with the collapse from last season seemingly lingering into 2026, with a very poor start.

Things are so bad that the Mets being sellers at this year's deadline is hardly a stretch. After so much investment, the Mets might have to blow things up this year.

As USA Today's Bob Nightengale shared, there is a sentiment among rival executives that is a bad look for the Mets. These rival executives believe there's little to no chance the Mets can turn this nightmare around this year.

Rival execs believe Mets can't turn season around​

"The Mets absolutely stink," Nightengale writes, "and rival executives believe they have virtually no chance to turn it around."

While there's always a chance for things to go wild in the Mets' favor, the odds aren't looking good this season.

They are 15-24 on the season, 11.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves atop the NL East, and they're also seven games back of a Wild Card spot.

That's not nearly far back enough to write the Mets off this season, but for Nightengale to report that these rival executives have so little belief in the Mets to turn this thing around, it's not looking good for Carlos Mendoza's squad.

Part of the issue for the Mets is that they've been dealt some injuries to key players, with Francisco Lindor out for some time, and Luis Robert Jr. banged up.

Add in Juan Soto's struggles, and plenty of others playing well below expectations, and it's not a surprise that executives around baseball have little faith in the Mets.

The Mets are facing disaster this season, and if things don't improve soon, which these rival execs don't believe to be in the cards for the Mets this season, then they will likely wind up as sellers at the 2026 MLB trade deadline.
