Ben Rortvedt has had a whirlwind offseason.
The 28-year-old catcher went from celebrating a World Series championship with the Los Angeles Dodgers in November, to the Cincinnati Reds on a waiver claim less than two weeks later, back to the Dodgers in February, then to the New York Mets just before spring training.

His next stop? No one knows.
Rortvedt, infielder Vidal Brujan and left-handed pitcher Bryan Hudson were designated for assignment by the Mets on March 25, as teams across MLB set their Opening Day rosters.
The net effect of the moves means that left-handed reliever Richard Lovelady and first baseman/outfielder Jared Young made the Mets’ Opening Day roster. The Mets host the Pittsburgh Pirates on March 26 at Citi Field.
Rortvedt slashed .167/.222/.208 in 13 spring training games. In 227 regular season games with the Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, and New York Yankees from 2021-25, Rortvedt slashed .190/.279/.270.
The Mets are set behind the plate with starter Francisco Alvarez and backup Luis Torrens. That pair started 139 of the 162 games at catcher last season; Hayden Senger started the other 23.
It was a tough depth chart for Rortvedt, a defensive specialist, to crack.
Now he’ll look to take his mitt — and his World Series ring — elsewhere in 2026.
