NEW YORK — Mets third baseman Mark Vientos was removed from the game prior to the start of the fifth inning of Saturday's game with groin discomfort, the team announced.
There is no word yet on the severity of Vientos' injury. He was replaced in the field by Brett Baty.
Vientos had been 0-for-2 during the game and made an acrobative leaping catch to rob Brendan Donovan of a hit in the top of the fourth inning.
Vientos has made 19th starts at third base this season, with one game spent at designated hitter and one off day. In 20 games this season, he is slashing .167/.259/.306 with two home runs, six RBI, seven runs and 14 strikeouts.
