The home of the Dallas Cowboys is likely going to witness history.
On Tuesday night Argentina played their first match of this summer’s World Cup and the Greatest Of All Time in Lionel Messi scored a hat trick against Algeria.
Again… the GOAT.
As you can see, Messi tied Miroslav Klose for the most goals scored in World Cup history as he now sits at 16. The match in question for Argentina took place in Kansas City at the home of the Chiefs. Obviously matches are happening all over the country, and recently AT&T Stadium (what the World Cup is referring to as Dallas Stadium) played host to a 2-2 draw between Japan and the Netherlands to get their party started.
Back to Messi specifically, Jerry Jones may have been the person most excited about the GOAT’s hat trick as Argentina’s next two matches both take place at Dallas Stadium. Unless Messi is held without a goal in consecutive matches, an extreme unlikelihood, the record is going to be broken in the same building that the Dallas Cowboys call home.
Fate can work in funny ways. Lately people have been wondering if certain sports droughts ending (Arsenal and the New York Knicks) is some sort of sign that 2026 could be the year of the Cowboys breaking theirs. Messi becoming the all-time World Cup scorer in the team’s home building would surely provide some good vibes as well.
