I saw Messi years ago in SF in a friendly match,and it took the whole defensive line to stop him. After every whistle there would be 3-4 defensive men laying on the field and Messi either missed a goal, or the goalie made a heroic effort to safe a goal. it was the most impressive non goal scoring game I ever saw!

I am wondering how much that offsets his salary? I imagine games are sold out everywhere they go, plus merchandise must be a HUGE increase. I would kind of like to see the dollars and cents of this. I know it won't offset it all, but if it's a major boost, arguably it may be better than signing someone for half his salary?
