After just watching PTI with Kiper I am back on the Suggs wagon. He was talking about how 40 times don't measure a pass rusher's ability. He said the need quickness, and the ability to finish a play. Suggs is a monster in those two categorires.

DRAFT SUGGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bah

Trade down a bit and take the best DL there.

If you aren't going to take the franchise QB...and you want to play for next year...than we have a whole lot of holes to fill.

Basically, you COULD end up with Suggs/Kennedy and say Al Johnson or Anquin Boldin.

Or you could stay at 6 and take Suggs/Kennedy.

The Cards biggest mistake of the off-season would be to NOT draft Suggs (if he is there).

He is a dominator.

The poking, prodding, and picking is clouding the picture. I hope it doesn't fool the Cards.

Why did it take that?

Many of us on this board have been saying the same thing for weeks now. Granted we aren't "experts", but their are many on this board that understand the game pretty well.

*cough* rush defense *cough*

Suggs got to Ell Roberson twice in the Holiday Bowl, but ASU gave up 224 yards rushing. It cost them the game.

1 man doesn't play defense alone.

unfortunately if 7 out of 11 suck, then it is hard to stop anyone. If you watched ASU last year, then you would know how bad the defense was (except for Suggs, Unck, Shivers, and Stewart).

ASU's defense wasn't that bad at all last year.
It wasn't Miami, but it wasn't Nebraska either.

Where'd they end up statistically in the Pac 10?

Well they were VERY bad in my opinion. Other than the 4 I mentioned, the other 7 sucked bad. Giving up 45 points to a pathetic, bottom feeder team like Nebraska shows how bad ASU was last year! :D

the people who are arguing for suggs have the following logic:

"we desperately need a pass rush, therefore we must select suggs or we will not improve our pass rush in the draft"

That logic is faulty for the following reason:

we can still improve our pass rush with our 2nd, 3rd, etc., draft picks.

what we CANNOT do however, is obtain a franchise qb in the later rounds or even the 2nd round.

We let byron hold a clip board for a year and marvel at how fast the game moves on this level. Meanwhile jeff keeps it warm for him.

And this logic is a stone cold lock, and not opinion, because....?

I'm saying that we have the opportunity to get a franchise qb, and we should use that opportunity.

even if we Leftwhich fails, we can still improve our defensive line in the 2nd round and after...

but if we take suggs, we will lose the opportunity at the franchise qb...

Well the term franchise Qb only comes into play IF he becomes a franchise QB. Cade McNown, Akili Smith, and a host of other "supposed" franchise Qbs never became what they were supposed to be.

I like Leftwich, but he has an equal chance as Suggs does to become a bust. And what if he doesn't play for two years, and then becomes a bust? If that's the case, then we get nothing out of him, while Suggs at least plays.

You might want to come forward with rock solid logic when questioning others logic. :D

I would not be disappointed at all with Suggs. I just feel that if Leftwich is there we should take him. However, if Leftwich is there, and the Cards draft Suggs, I will not complain. In that case if Suggs is a bust and Leftwich a hall of famer, then I'll toot my horn later. Now, if Suggs is a stud and Leftwich is a bust, I'll forget I ever mentioned any of this (and I would hope everyone else forgets too :) )

But did anyone, other than the teams that drafted them, really believe they were truly franchise QBs? That term is waaaay overused. I NEVER thought Cade McNown was a franchise QB. Now, I did think he would be an ok QB but not a franchise QB in the Peyton Manning mold.

Leftwich, IMO is the top QB in the draft. Palmer is going to be picked first, not because he is better but because the Bengals can get him signed before the draft. Leftwich publically said he dreaded the thought of being picked by Cincy and that drove them off. He is a talent that you simply cannot pass by, if given the chance to pick him, when he plays the MOST important position on the field. He is a guy who can affect the outcome of the game single handedly EVERY week. Suggs cannot. Suggs may directly change a game here and there but he cannot do it EVERY week.

Now, the bust factor is basically the same (I would submit a QBs bust potential is higher due to complexity of position but until proven otherwise statistically we'll call it even) but effects on the team (ie wins) is more felt by getting a successful QB in there than a successful DE.
