Meet the season's final high school Team of the Month in Jacksonville

Raines boys track and field finished on top of the monthly Team of the Month readers' poll for May high school sports performances across Jacksonville and Northeast Florida.

The Vikings captured the fourth Florida High School Athletic Association boys track and field championship in school history, winning Class 2A by the second-largest margin ever in a state meet.

Individual event state championships for Raines included Owen Kaye in the 200-meter dash, Iason Williams in the 110 hurdles and the quartet of Jordan Middleton, Alexander Higgins, Jonathan Downer-Barrett and Owen Kaye in the 4x400 relay.

The relay team had also broken the school record in the event, set by Sheldon Roberts, Lamar Horne, DaMar Horne and Jimmie Hackley in 1993.

Following the season, Steven Bellamy of Raines was recognized as the Florida Dairy Farmers coach of the year for boys track.

The Times-Union will begin a new set of Team of the Month polls during the 2026-27 school year.
