Meet Louisville-area high school softball player of the year nominees

The Louisville-area nominees for Courier Journal softball player of the year delivered on the diamond throughout the 2026 season.

Voting is underway for The Courier Journal's softball player of the year. The poll closes at 6 p.m. Thursday, and the winner will be announced Friday.

Here are the nominees:

Aubrey Batts, Oldham County​

You must be registered for see images

Senior batted .409 with three home runs, 12 doubles and 40 RBIs. Received second-team All-State honors. Signed with Bellarmine.

Malyea Giddens, Assumption​

Senior batted .450 with eight doubles, 23 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Named first-team All-State. Signed with Bellarmine.

Shelby James, Ballard​

You must be registered for see images

Senior batted .415 with 13 doubles and 32 RBIs. Also went 11-4 with a 1.88 ERA and 89 strikeouts over 74⅓ innings. Named Seventh Region Player of the Year and honorable-mention All-State. Signed with Northern Kentucky.

Mollie Johnston, Bullitt East​

Senior batted .418 with 10 home runs and 54 RBIs. Named Sixth Region Player of the Year. Signed with Polk State College.

Allie Streble, Mercy​

Junior batted .407 with three home runs, 35 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Received All-Sixth Region honors.
