Former Chicago Cubs World Series MVP Ben Zobrist will visit Little Cubs Field in Freeport on Sept. 5 for a fundraising event supporting Champion Forward, a nonprofit focused on mental and emotional wellness in youth sports.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wrigley Field replica, according to a community announcement. Fans will have a chance to meet Zobrist, participate in activities and enter a sweepstakes to win the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro convertible he received after being named the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 World Series.
Zobrist helped lead the Cubs to their first World Series title in more than a century and also won a championship with the Kansas City Royals in 2015. During a 14-year major league career, he earned three All-Star selections and became known for his ability to play multiple positions throughout the field.
Attendees will be able to purchase autographs and signed copies of Zobrist's new book, "Prepare for the Pressure." Event organizers also plan a question-and-answer session with Zobrist, along with additional activities throughout the day.
The sweepstakes proceeds will benefit Champion Forward, which works with young athletes, parents and coaches to promote healthier sports experiences, according to the announcement.
A free home run derby will be offered for participants of all ages, with prizes awarded to winners.
Zobrist is also scheduled to lead a free youth baseball clinic and participate in the home run derby.
Food will be available for purchase at the venue. Organizers encourage visitors to bring lawn chairs or arrive early to secure seating in the bleachers.
Little Cubs Field, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is located at 1160 W. Empire St. in Freeport.
Admission to the facility is free and parking will be available nearby at no cost.
