Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy, who has been dealing with a wrist injury, is looking at a possible return very soon.
Muncy took batting practice and made some throws from third base on Tuesday before the Dodgers take on the Colorado Rockies.
He has been out of the lineup since Friday, when the 35-year-old slugger took a pitch to the wrist. Shortly after getting hit, Muncy left the game and has not been on the field since.
However, after some work in the field on Tuesday, Muncy looked good, and manager Dave Roberts said that if he recovers well from that work, a return before their day off on Thursday is quite possible.

Muncy has seemingly avoided a fracture in his hand, something that he was not so lucky to sidestep back in 2019, when he got hit on his right wrist and ended up getting a further scan that revealed a more serious injury.
“Not feeling great right now, but it is a relief,” Muncy said on the day of the injury. “We just got to monitor it for the next couple of days. Typically, especially in that area, the X-rays never come back positive immediately. It kind of forms a little bit. But I’m pretty sure it hit half my wrist pad and half my wrist.
“I think me deciding to wear that wrist guard the last couple years might have saved my wrist, at least tonight.”
Dave Roberts echoed a similar sentiment, thinking that Muncy avoided an injured list stint.
“I think it got enough of that pad to protect it,” Roberts said. “He’ll be down for the next couple days just to make sure we get that swelling out, but I think right now, we are breathing a sigh of relief.”

Max Muncy’s importance to the Dodgers
In the year, Muncy has had an All-Star season, hitting .258 with 12 home runs and only 19 RBIs.
However, his glove work and range remain strong, with his all-around play equating to 2.4 bWAR and making him one of the best third basemen in baseball.
His role in the lineup cannot be overstated — he has one of the best eyes in the sport and gives any pitcher something to think about.
The Dodgers have been inconsistent for most of the season, but Muncy has been a constant, and while LA navigates a tricky slump to start the season, he has become all the more important.
