This is the first offseason for the Mavericks' new front office regime of team president Masai Ujiri and general manager Mike Schmitz. Since taking over, Ujiri said the Mavericks' offseason moves will be "future-based" as the team looks to build around reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg.
However, during head coach Dusty May's press conference on Monday, Ujiri made it clear the Mavericks want to win now.
“The goal is to win. We have a star young player here that we want to build around and really incredible young players and great veteran players," Ujiri said. "We want to win. There’s parity in the NBA and however we can get there, we’ll try our best to win, and to grow in this organization.”

Free agency details
Negotiation window opening: Each team can negotiate with free agents starting at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
Signing period: Teams can officially sign free agents to contracts starting at 11:01 a.m. CT on July 6.
Latest Mavs moves, reports
— The New York Knicks put some pressure on the Mavericks to hold on to restricted free agent Moussa Cisse by signing him to a two-year offer sheet. However, Dallas didn't bother using its allotted 48 hours and matched the offer sheet for Cisse a few hours later. The deal is for $4.7 million and is partially guaranteed.
— After acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Miami Heat also have interest in trading for Klay Thompson, according to the Miami Herald. The Mavericks' shooting guard is entering the final year of his deal and is owed $17.5 million for the 2026-27 season.
— The Mavericks announced their participation in the previously reported six-team trade on July 8. The Mavericks acquired forward Santi Aldama, guard Marcus Sasser and the draft rights to forward Tarik Biberovic.
— After a short stint with the Mavericks, forward Khris Middleton is rejoining the Wizards on a three-year, $17.6 million deal via a sign and trade, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on July 7th. The deal is a part of a larger six-team trade that includes the Mavericks' acquisition of Santi Aldama, ESPN reports.
— ESPN's Shams Charania reported on July 6 that forward Rui Hachimura agreed to a two-year, $28 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. NBA insider Marc Stein reported Hachimura chose the Clippers over interest from the Mavericks.
— Another Mavericks target is off the board. Despite reported interest from the Mavs, guard Anfernee Simons agreed to a two-year, $12.3 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
— The Mavericks have emerged as a suitor for free agent guard Anfernee Simons, according to a report from NBA insider Marc Stein.
— The Mavericks are making a move for a veteran forward. The team is trading for forward Santi Aldama, a person familiar with the deal told The Dallas Morning News. Dallas will send guard AJ Johnson, a protected 2030 Golden State Warriors first-round pick and two future second-round picks to Memphis in the move first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania.
— The Mavericks are expected to complete a trade for Pistons guard Marcus Sasser, but it must wait until July 6, according to a report from NBA insider Marc Stein.
— Kawhi Leonard is not coming to Dallas. The Los Angeles Clippers are nearing a deal to send Leonard to the Toronto Raptors, according to a report from ESPN's Shams Charania. The Athletic reported Sunday that Ujiri was interested in reuniting with Leonard, who he won a championship with in 2019.
— According to a report from NBA insider Marc Stein on Tuesday, the Mavericks are a leading suitor to acquire Detroit Pistons guard Marcus Sasser, a Dallas native, in a trade.
— The Mavericks extended a qualifying offer to center Moussa Cisse to make him a restricted free agent, a person familiar with the situation told The Dallas Morning News' Mike Curtis.
— The Mavericks exercised their team option on point guard Ryan Nembhard for the 2026-27 season, the team announced Monday.

Potential Mavs free agent targets
Bruce Brown: Brown built a reputation during his first stint with the Nuggets for being a physical defender, but his second stint allowed him to become one of the most reliable players in the NBA.
John Collins:Collins reportedly agreed to a three-year, $51 million deal with the Detroit Pistons.
Javonte Green: Green agreed to a one-year, $3.95 million deal to return to the Detroit Pistons, according to a report from ESPN.
Collin Sexton: Sexton agreed to a two-year, $19 million deal to join the Los Angeles Lakers, according to a report from ESPN.
Anfernee Simons:Simons agreed to a two-year, $12.3 million deal to join the Philadelphia 76ers, according to a report from ESPN.
Jordan Clarkson: Clarkson agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million minimum deal to return to the New York Knicks, according to a report from The Athletic.
Rui Hachimura: Hachimura inked a two-year, $28 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Mavs free agents
Marvin Bagley III:Bagley reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets.
Khris Middleton: After a short stint with the Mavericks, forward Khris Middleton is rejoining the Wizards on a three-year, $17.6 million deal via a sign and trade, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on July 7th.
Dwight Powell: Powell is the only player on the roster who has played in the Dirk Nowitzki, Luka Doncic and Flagg eras. He’s a fan favorite and provides veteran leadership, but the Mavericks have several options at center to consider this summer, including Bagley and two-way Moussa Cisse, who the Mavericks re-signed on a two-year deal after they were forced to match an offer sheet for Cisse from the Knicks.
Brandon Williams: The Mavericks are still in need of a backup point guard behind Irving, which could very well be Williams. The fourth-year guard is expected to have interest from other teams, but he's made Dallas home for the last three seasons. He's also close with Irving, but after posting the best season in his career, he could be thinking about spreading his wings elsewhere.
