The 2026 NFL preseason kicked off on Thursday night with the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game between the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals in Canton, OH. It represented the first game for Mike LaFleur as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, and his first time being a head coach at all.

During warm-ups, the NBC Football Night in America crew interviewed LaFleur as he roamed the field.

And in the middle of the interview, NBC’s Maria Taylor informed LaFleur that a special guest was taking over to ask the questions: Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, Mike’s brother.

“Hey, Coach,” Matt LaFleur said. “What are we thinking about doing a pregame interview? Don’t you have a team to coach?”

“You know, I thought you guys had practice and meetings, but obviously you’re letting your coordinators do that,” Mike LaFleur quipped.

“Oh yeah. We let ’em out early tonight,” Matt LaFleur responded.

“Good to hear from you, man,” Mike LaFleur said.

“You got the challenge flag?” Matt LaFleur asked.

“I don’t have the challenge flag yet. You know what, thanks for bringing that up, because that’s probably something I was going to miss… I did tell the officials that I’m not going to slam the challenge flag like my brother,” Mike LaFleur explained. “So, they got a nice kick out of that.”

“Yeah, I’ve been known to do that a few times,” Matt LaFleur admitted. “Hey, man, you’ve earned this [opportunity]. Go let it rip, have fun. And I’m proud of you, buddy. Love you, man.”

“Love you too, dude. Thanks,” Mike LaFleur said.

Maria Taylor then asked LaFleur, “Did you expect that, Mike? Tell the truth.”

“I did not expect that right there,” LaFleur said. “I appreciate that, guys. That’s pretty cool. I appreciate that. I mean, come on, man. Now you’ve got me a little bit emotional.”

Great work by NBC to make that happen.

LaFleur, like his brother, is known for being an offensive guru. He served as offensive coordinator on Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams staff from 2023 through 2025.

The Cardinals and Packers don’t face each other in the 2026 regular season, but they will face off in Week 4 of preseason on Aug. 28 at Lambeau Field.
