When the Haiti Men's National Soccer Team take the pitch at Boston Stadium against Scotland on June 13, marking only the second-ever World Cup appearance for Les Grenadiers and the first in 52 years, they'll have a former Melrose High standout among their ranks.

Forward Frantzdy Pierrot, who was born in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti and raised in the North Shore, was named to Haiti's 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday, May 15. The 31-year-old, who spent this past season playing for Turkish Super Lig club Çaykur Rizespor on loan from Greek giants AEK Athens, has scored 33 goals in 49 appearances for Haiti.

A 2014 Melrose High graduate, Pierrot excelled in both soccer and basketball for the now-Red Hawks. Though he played just two years of varsity soccer before turning his attention to the club ranks with the Seacoast United Phantoms and Real Boston Rams, Pierrot was a captain and key figure for Melrose on the court, helping lead the Red Hawks to the 2013 MIAA Division 2 North semi-finals.

Following graduation, Pierrot went on to play NCAA Division 1 soccer for Northeastern, being named the 2014 CAA Rookie of the Year, before transferring to Coastal Carolina University. As a senior, he helped lead the Chanticleers to the 2017 Sun Belt Conference title, being named conference MVP, and scored a goal in a 3-1 upset win over No. 8 Clemson in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division 1 Tournament.

While still in college, he played for Reading United of the USL Premier Development League and earned his first call up to Haiti in 2016. He was selected 27th overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids, but did not sign, opting instead to pursue a career in Europe as he signed with Belgian Prop League club Royal Excel Mouscron on July 27, 2018.

After two years with Mouscron, Pierrot spent three seasons with French Ligue 2 side EA Guingamp and then three seasons at Israeli Premier League club Maccabi Haifa, with whom he scored a pair of goals in a 2022 UEFA Champions League qualifies against Greek giants Olympiacos and Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade.

Pierrot joined AEK Athens on Sept. 10, 2024, and has scored 9 goals in 55 appearances for the 14-time Greek champions. He spent the 2025-26 season on loan with Çaykur Rizespor, making six appearances as the club finished eighth in the Super Lig.

For Les Grenadiers, Pierrot scored a pair of goals in 2026 World Cup qualification, including the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Costa Rica on Nov. 13, 2025.

Pierrot so far is the only player from Massachusetts to be named to a squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The last Massachusetts native to represent the United State Men's National Team at the World Cup was Attleboro's Geoff Cameron in Brazil in 2014.

As for the United States Women's National Team, a plethora of Bay Staters have dawned the Stars and Stripes in recent times, including Hingham's Lily Reale and Hanson's Ally Sentnor. Hanson sisters Sam and Kristie Mewis, meanwhile, were regulars for the USWNT during the 2010s and early 2020s, with Sam winning the 2019 World Cup.
