That's sure what it looks like but Miami's season was long over when he would have had an opportunity to possibly come back so I think the possibility is there that he might make another try at playing. I haven't been keeping up on him though so I don't really know. The last time I saw him interviewed he seemed really intent on continuing to play. I also haven't heard him announce his retirement.Trent Green is finished due to his many head injuries.
Too bad for the 49er's that they don't have even an average QB on their squad!Mike Martz has a reputation of making an average Qb into a stud like Warner, Bulger, Kitna, and Trent Green.

That's debatable. Jackson's rookie year Faulk was still the #1 guy. On his way out, but still a year away from retiring. Jackson's second year, Martz had heart problems and wasn't able to coach for a large portion of the season.Steven Jackson, who many feel is as good if not better than Frank Gore was underutilized by Martz.
I don't think it's curious at all. They need someone who can develop Alex Smith. Martz will certainly do that. Even if he;s only there two years, Smith will be a better QB and understand routes and timing better than he would have otherwise. Its just a very curious hire.
That or Smith will be officially certified as having PTSD syndrome in a couple of years... Take your pick! They need someone who can develop Alex Smith. Martz will certainly do that. Great ending line in that article:

Count me among those who think Martz is a good coach and a good hire, traits he shares with Mike Nolan.
The situation could pose long term problems for us if it weren't for one overriding saving fact: John and Denise York, the Niner owners, are meddling incompetents, guaranteed to find ways to ruin any lucky good choices they make. Hallelujah.
Yeah, the current division could not be any different than competing against the likes of the Cowboys, Skins, Giants, and Eagles of the 70's, 80's, and 90's.Hard to believe that not only is the Cards ownership situation not the worst in the NFL, but there are two worse ones in their own division.

How's the top of the draft look for WRs? I'll bet SF tries to trade down to the middle/end of the first.
