Marlins' Eury Perez is a fantasy option that managers will not want to pass up on originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Eury Perez has been someone the Miami Marlins have been excited about for years. He signed as an international free agent in 2019 and has all the makings to be a premier pitcher in the big leagues.
After coming off Tommy John surgery in 2024, Perez returned last season, compiling a 7-6 record with a 4.25 ERA and 105 strikeouts on 95.1 innings of work.
Now, with Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers gone, it is his time to step up. He and Sandy Alcantara will be expected to carry the load for this rotation in 2026.

Marlins' Eury Perez is a fantasy option that managers will not want to pass up
Eury Perez has looked sharp throughout the spring. He seems to be fully recovered from the 2024 Tommy John surgery, clocking in at 100 mph with ease.
For those who are getting ready to make their fantasy drafts this week, Perez is almost a must-get. ESPN's Tristan H. Cockcroft pencils him in as a top-20 sleeper.
"If not for Tommy John surgery that cost him the entirety of 2024 and the first two months of 2025, Perez might already be regarded [as] one of fantasy baseball's premier starting pitchers. Through 39 big-league starts, his fastball averaged 97.7 mph, and he has three secondary pitches that generate 40%-plus whiff rates. The only thing standing in his path to a massive breakthrough is a potential innings cap (perhaps 150)."
The only thing that may hinder his elite status this season is a proposed innings limit. Miami will be careful with their youngster, but even with an innings limit, he could still be a top arm in regard to fantasy.
Don't be the one on the outside looking in here. Perez could be a great option, and a reason that you find yourself in the playoffs.
