Mariners throw at Mike Trout's head 2 pitches in a row, including HBP, vs. Angels originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A fastball up and in is a spooky sight.
Two in a row? Extra scary, especially when the second one does indeed hit the batter.
That's what happened to Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout on Friday night against the Seattle Mariners and right-handed pitcher Bryan Woo.
It was the first inning, Trout up with one out and none on. In a 1-0 count, Woo's fastball came dangerously close to Trout's head.

Then on the 2-0 pitch, Woo lost it even more up and in, and Trout was hit.
The batting helmet seemed to save Trout from further damage, but he was definitely annoyed.
Bryan Woo’s first pitch to Mike Trout was up and in and near Mike Trout’s head. His second pitch to Trout drilled him up high. Interesting

There's almost no way this was intentional.
Trout is immensely respected, and it was early in the game. It was also the first game of the series, so it's not clear what the Mariners could've been retaliating for, anyway.
Most likely, it's just unlucky for Trout -- who was fortunate to stay in the game.
Woo is a great control pitcher, but even guys like him can lose the strike zone and their release point from time to time.
Angels fans are surely just grateful it didn't end worse for Trout.
