The Seattle Mariners made a notable roster move on Thursday afternoon, signing an infielder/outfielder to a minor league contract.

The AL West club never made an official announcement, but Weston Wilson has appeared in two games for Seattle's Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma.

Last week, the Baltimore Orioles designated Wilson for assignment. He elected free agency instead of an outright assignment to the minors.

Wilson has played parts of four seasons in the Majors, three of them with the Philadelphia Phillies in a utility player role.

"At the moment, the Mariners are carrying a pair of veteran infield/outfield options on the bench: Rob Refsnyder and Connor Joe...," Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors wrote Thursday. "Should either (or both) continue to struggle, it’s possible the Mariners could view the newly signed Wilson as a right-handed alternative off the bench."

Wilson can play left field and third and second base. In 119 career games, Wilson has hit .240 with 10 home runs to go along with a .744 OPS.

This is not a flashy move by the Mariners, but it provides them with quality outfield depth and a player with more than a few years of Major League experience.
