Marina Mabrey of the Toronto Tempo had quite a game on Thursday against the Los Angeles Sparks.
The 29-year-old guard from Notre Dame equaled the league scoring mark for a single game, going for 53 points in a 125-97 romp. And Mabrey did it all in 32 minutes on the court. She went 17-of-28 from the field, including 9-of-18 from behind the arc. Add in 10-of-12 from the line and you get 53 points. She added six rebounds and a pair of assists for good measure.
Mabrey tied the mark set by Liz Cambage for Dallas against New York on July 17, 2018, and by A'ja Wilson for Las Vegas at Atlanta on Aug. 22, 2023. Overall on the season, Mabrey is averaging nearly 20 points per game with 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists. She went way over those numbers on June 24.
