Former Defensive Player of the Year Award winner Marcus Smart has officially selected his number with the Rockets, and to no surprise, he'll wear No. 36. Smart has played 12 NBA seasons with four different teams, most notably the Boston Celtics, wearing No. 36 at every stop.
Smart will also be the first player in Houston Rockets franchise history to don No. 36. After two injury-riddled seasons from 2023 to 2025, Smart revitalized his career last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. The former Oklahoma State product showcased the defense, grit and hustle that have become his trademark, averaging 9.3 points, three assists, 1.4 steals and 0.4 blocks. A three-time NBA Hustle Award winner, Smart will bring the competitive edge that head coach Ime Udoka has been searching for.
