The Round of 32 of the men's NCAA Tournament got underway on Saturday with a full slate of games as March Madness began. The tournament is a time for young players to show what they can do and improve their draft stock for when the time comes in June.
The Philadelphia 76ers won't know if they will have a first-round pick until the lottery drawing on May 12 as their pick is only top 6 protected. As they sit in their current situation, the Sixers are working on trying to be in the best position possible in order to keep that pick.
With that being said, day 3 of the NCAA Tournament featured some excellent options for Philadelphia in Round 2 of the draft. These prospects led their team to wins to advance to the Sweet 16 of the tournament:
Stats in a win over (11) Drake: 25 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks
Toppin's athleticism and skill were on full display in this one. He shot 11-for-13 from the floor and was able to have a lot of success around the rim. He is going to need some development when he gets to the league, but he has the skills and the work ethic to make it in the NBA.
Stats in win over (9) Creighton: 8 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks
Broome has had trouble shooting it from distance in this tournament after an 0-for-4 performance against Creighton, but he is going to be an NBA prospect that teams should look at early in Round 2 of the draft in June. He has a lot of skill in the post and around the basket and that will translate to the league.
Stats in win over (7) UCLA: 20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists
Lanier has the makings to be a specialist sharpshooter in the league. He shot 4-for-5 from deep in the win over the Bruins and was terrific moving off the ball. If he is available for the Sixers in Round 2, he should absolutely be considered. This young man has the makings of an elite shooter in any team's rotation.
