MADRID, SPAIN - APRIL 7: Manuel Neuer of FC Bayern Munchen celebrates after his team scored a goal during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Quarter-Final First Leg match between Real Madrid CF and FC Bayern Munchen at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on April 7, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. Bayern Munich made a positive first step in the Champions League quarterfinals by beating arch-nemesis Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg at the Bernabeu. Luis Díaz and Harry Kane scored Bayern’s goals, but it was Manuel Neuer who made the difference with a record-breaking performance that helped the Bavarians bring all three points back to Munich:

Other sources state that the 40-year-old nearly matched the benchmark he set in the 2016/17 meeting between the two teams, registering 10 saves at that time.

Neuer produced a staggering nine saves to deny the many efforts of Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappé, and co from scoring, only getting beaten by a well-placed strike by the latter that just bounced over the line. This was a statement win for Bayern and a statement performance from Manu, who proved that he hasn’t lost a step. His outing was so good that Serge Gnabry said that he sleeps better knowing he has the GOATkeeper between the sticks:

• Do you sleep better when you know Manuel Neuer is going to be your goalkeeper

Serge Gnabry: "I sleep like a baby"
